Tasting Note
Wine Advocate 93+ Points, Monica Larner, 01 August 2019
Whereas the 2011 vintage is overtly ripe, the 2012 Flaccianello della Pieve is slightly more evolved. Instead of sweet ripeness, you get savory ripeness with dried fruit, prune, black licorice, balsam herb, rosemary essence and scorched earth. The 2012 season produced fewer flowers, and yields in this vintage were naturally reduced as a result. Like 2011, however, this vintage saw an early harvest thanks to hot and dry conditions during the summer that increased the speed of ripening. This edition reveals more thickness and dense concentration as well, something you notice in the intensity of the mouthfeel and the firmness of the wine's tannic structure.

Winemaking
Flaccianello della Pieve is a 100% Sangiovese selected from the best vineyards of Colli Toscana Centralle.
Matured for 18 months in oak barrels from Troncais and Allier forest (70-80% new), 6 months aged in large oak casks, and 2% aged in clay amphora. Organic
Winery
In 1968 Fontodi was purchased by the Manetti family. (famous for the terracotta tiles in the Chianti region).
The estate is certified organic and has around 70 hectares of vines planted. They have a great passion for quality and an immense respect and care for the Sangiovese grape.
In the cellar the all processes are done by gravity, and fermentations are made with wild yeast in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks.
