The Latour Martillac 2017 Blanc sings of warm apples, fresh nectarines and green guava with touches of coriander seed and fresh ginger. The palate is medium-bodied, crisp and intense with a long finish.

Packed with tannins as well as delicious black-currant fruits, this is a dense wine. Dark tannins are an important part of the wine's potential, underlining the structure while supporting the ripe fruits. Drink from 2023.

Vinous 93

The 2017 Latour-Martillac Blanc has a lifted linden, Granny Smith apple and nettle scented bouquet that opens nicely with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp acidity, fresh and focused with a satisfying sense of tension. It is a subtle Pessac-Léognan Blanc, unfolding in the glass to reveal light nectarine and stone fruit notes towards the finish. This is a strong performance from Latour-Martillac and it comes recommended.

Winemaking Winery

The 2017 vintage is a blend of 50% Sauvignon Blanc, 50% Semillon. The Sauvignon Blanc and the Semillon grapes are manually harvested in successive selections according to the progress of their ripeness. The must is clarified naturally before being put in barrels for the fermentation. The wine matures for 15 months being 11 of those on its lees, with 25% new French oak barrels.

Winery

The estate takes its name from the tower which stands in the main courtyard of the château; it is the remnant of a fort built in the 12th century by the ancestors of Montesquieu.

LaTour-Martillac is one of only six properties classified for both red and white wines in Pessac Leognan.
