The Château Margaux vineyard covers 82 hectares.
Sold under the name of “Château Margaux 2nd wine”, it took its permanent name of Pavillon Rouge du Château Margaux in 1908.

After an eclipse between the thirties and the mid-seventies, its production restarted on the arrival of André Mentzelopoulos in 1977 and at first greatly increased in order to improve the quality of the first wine.

The high quality of Pavillon Rouge is attributed to the use of the same vineyards plots as the ones used for the production of the gran vin. Although from younger vines, and less optimal sections.

The varieties used are the same as for Chateau Margaux and around 96,000 bottles are produced every year.

Pavillon Rouge is fermented in temperature controlled stainless steel and oak vats, with regular pump overs. The wine ages for 22 months in 100% new French oak.

The 2018 is a blend of 69% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Merlot, 9% Petit Verdot and 3% Cabernet Franc.
