In 1997, Baroness Philippine de Rothschild, and Eduardo Guilisasti Tagle, Chairman of Viña Concha y Toro S.A., sealed a partnership agreement with a view to create an exceptional Franco-Chilean wine called Almaviva.
Almaviva was the first wine in Chile created under the French Château concept, taking into account exceptional terroir, one unique bodega and one dedicated technical team.
The wine is made from a blend of classic Bordeaux varieties, in which Cabernet Sauvignon predominates and varying amounts of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Carmenere are added every vintage. Cold macerated, and fermented by parcel in stainless steel tanks. Malolactic occur without the addition of bacteria. Press wine is added before barrel ageing. Almaviva ages from 16-19 months in 100% new French Oak.
