Matured for 12 months in 72% new barrel, 18 % used barrel and 10 % concrete, (95% French, 5% American).

When the Alvarez family purchased Vega Sicilia in 1982 it was still producing a wine that everyone enjoyed. The Valbuena No.3 a version with shorter ageing and less new oak barrels, than Valbuena No.5. This was a juicy and more fruit driven wine that Vega wanted to produce, while distancing it from the Vega Sicilia concept. Alion was then created in 1991, and soon after it received its own winery 10 minutes drive from Vega Sicilia. All the grapes produced for this wine come from the village of La Horra, Roa, Gumiel de Mercado, and a small amount of Vega Sicilia grapes are also used in the production of Alion.
