The domaine was founded in 1865 by Camille Giroud coming back from Switzerland and marrying a Burgundian lady with extensive possessions of property. The house made its fame for wines to age for buying wine in cask after malolactic fermentation, than keeping them in cask for 18 to 36 months, than 3 to 4 years in bottle before releasing for sale.

This business model worked well during years, until recently on the early 90's after the death of Lucien Giroud, the 2 last Giroud brothers decided to break the system and build a winery to vinify their own production as well as continuing purchasing finished wines for ageing. However the experimentation didn't worked well and the huge stock of wines were holding the immediate cash need of the company to operate. The financial difficulty led the Giroud brothers to sell the company in 2002 to Joe Wende and Ann Colgin (from Napa).

David Croix was named regisseur and winemaker who stayed until 2016 vintage when Carel Voorhuis took over.
