Located in the left bank of Bordeaux in the Margaux appellation, Chateau Giscours was rated as a third growth in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification, and first produced wine in 1552 by Pierre de Lhomme.
During the French revolution the Chateau was confiscated and sold in 1793 to American investors John Gray and Jonathan Davis. Over the next century Giscours had multiple owners and it was managed in 1860's by Pierre Skawinski, who was a revered vineyard manager who had numerous contributions to modern vine growing techniques.
Between 1860's and 1995 the Chateau changed hands another 4 times, with the current owner Dutch businessman Eric Albada Jelgersma acquiring in 1995.
The estate is one of the largest properties on the Left-Bank with over 300 hectares of land, 102 of them in the Margaux appellation and 95 planted with vines divided in 43 plots.
The vineyards that were planted mainly with Merlot until the 90's, were replanted with a majority of Cabernet Sauvignon by the current owner.
The Chateau produces 3 wines, Chateau Giscours, the second wine La Sirene de Giscours, and from the 63 hectares located in the Haut Medoc appellation is produced Le Haut Medoc de Giscours.
The grand vin is produced in a combination of stainless steel and concrete tanks that range in size between 20 and 250 hectoliters.
The wines are macerated for 35 days at 28°C, and aged for 17 months in 50% new French oak barrels.
2019 vintage was a blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot.
