Poggibonsi - Tuscany

The Imberti family is originally from the province of Bergamo and for five generations has operated in the wood importation and processing industry.

Over 50 years ago Vito Arturo Imberti fell in love with these hills, a love that was crowned by the purchase of Fattoria Le Fonti.
Today his children Franca, Ferdinando and Giovanni, and his nephew Mattia tend to the over 140 hectares estate, of which 27 are vineyards, cultivated according to the principles of organic farming.
In addition to the great wines of the Tuscan tradition, the Imberti family produces extra-virgin Chianti Classico DOP olive oil and cereals, while a large part of the farmland is kept as forest and used for fauna and a game reserve.

Winemaking

Sangiovese is the “main player” of the production, a variety of grapes highly affected by the terroir, never monotonous, exciting with every vintage.
This land offers a great variability of soils: with the presence of Pliocene clays and others with sandy matrix and deposits of pebbles.
These conditions often intersect creating complexity and a wide variability. The estate keeps a great number of clones resulting from years of research both within the estate and with the University of Florence.
Le Fonti protect their vineyards and grapes strengthening the plants, enabling them to resist diseases and environmental stresses with the use of organic products.
This is the only way to obtain grapes that reflect the vineyard with its unique characteristics, resulting in authentic wines.
In the cellar the grapes are not pressed, delicate pump over and light extractions, favoring the integrity of the fruit and the expression of the single parcels of vineyard throughout the fermentation.
The ageing process continues in steel, concrete or in medium or lightly toasted French oak barriques depending on the wine. The wines are supervised by the renowned Paolo Caciorgna consultant winemaker, that is also responsible for Altesino, Il Pallagio, Bocelli, among others.
