Glenfiddich 1979, 14 years old by Moon Import, The Sails in the Wind

Single Malt Scotch Whisky, distilled by the Glenfiddich distillery in 1979 and laid to rest in hogshead's #14803 & #14804 before being bottled in 1993 by Moon Import with approximate 14 years old at 46% ABV, as part of The Sails in the Wind series.

The Sails in the Wind  was a seven-part series released in 1993 and was remarkable in that five of the bottlings were from Islay distilleries.

Moon Import was founded by Pepi Mongiardino in 1980 and he bottled his first whisky in 1982. Always beautifully labelled, Pepi is acclaimed for designing the packaging for Moon Import bottles himself, often using images found in old books.

Tasting Notes: Fresh fruits, lots of apples and pears, lemony too, hints of dry hay, honeydew, minerals

The Distillery:

Glenfiddich is the world's biggest-selling single malt whisky, and it was one of the first brands to be marketed as a single malt since 1963.

The distillery was built by William Grant in 1886, distilling its first spirit on Christmas day the following year.

Today it’s still part of the family: William Grant & Sons, who also owns the Balvenie distillery, as well as the Grant's blend, Hendrick's Gin and Drambuie liqueur.
