Tasting Note
Robert Parker 95 points
Compared with the flamboyant aromatics of the 1997, Yquem's 1996 plays it closer to the vest, although there is a lot going on. Light gold with a tight but promising nose of roasted hazelnuts intermixed with creme brulee, vanilla beans, honey, orange marmalade, and peaches, this medium to full-bodied offering reveals loads of power in its restrained, measured personality. There is admirable acidity, weight, texture, and purity in this impeccably made Yquem. However, patience will be a virtue.
Drinking Window: 2012-2060.

Château d'Yquem, a renowned Sauternes wine with a 400-year history, gained Premier Cru Superior status in 1855 at the World Fair in Paris.
With 113 hectares of vineyards, Château d'Yquem nurtures Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc grapes in a unique micro-climate ideal for noble rot development. The morning fogs of autumn encourage Botrytis cinerea growth on the grapes, concentrating sugars and flavors.
Aged beautifully, Château Yquem's Sauternes evolves with time, offering exquisite dried fruit flavors complemented by delicate floral notes. Defined by harmony, balance, complexity, and finesse, Château d'Yquem's Sauternes stands out as a unique and exceptional wine style.
