The domaine started back in 1949 with a small plot of Fourchaume farmed by André and Gabrielle Tremblay. Back then frost and lack of mechanization made work especially hard and not very profitable. Despite these difficulties they managed to expand the holdings and passed over 7Ha of vineyards over to their daughter Lyne Marchive.
In 1973 Lyne Marchive started domaine bottling and in 30 years she grew the number and the size of her vineyards, extended the winery and modernized the equipment.
Through her travels her wines were soon to be found in the best restaurants in Asia, Europe and the United States.
Incidentally Richard also started his own winery in Beaujolais in 2007 and has managed vineyards from the Moulin a Vent appellation. He also gained experience working at wineries in various other countries such as California, South Africa and New Zealand.
Winemaking
The domaine current chief winemaker is Guenole Breteaudeau who joined in 2006. Six employees work in the vineyards full time, one employee is in charge of order fulfilment and two employees work in administration.
Today the Domaine owns 29Ha of vineyards between Petit Chablis and the Grand Crus and the objective in the vineyards is to eliminate chemicals to increase wild life and sustainability of the soils. Organic fertilizers are used if needed.
The vineyards are tended carefully to prevent diseases, and horses are used to plow in order to aerate the soil and allow an improve organism’s diversity.
Since 1963 the vineyards were planted with massal selection, which allows a broad genetic diversity and the best vines can be propagated and grafted on new plantings.
